Weekend walks, because we can October 5, 2010

As you know from my rather excited post a few weeks ago, C is now walking.

I’m making the most of this and trying to take her out for regular walks with the dog.  Although it’s very slow going, we both have lots of fun.

We see lots of interesting things

And find exciting looking stones and twigs

We even chase the ducks and swans

I love seeing how she finds every little thing so interesting.  I know it turns a ten minute walk into a 45 minute one but soon enough she’ll take all these things for granted, as we do, and I’ll miss the time when a twig was the best thing in the world… until she spotted that stone over there.

Finally, C is walking!  She’s been walking for a couple of weeks but in the last few days she’s practically given up crawling and prefers to walk.

She was quite a slow learner; at 10 months she wasn’t even pulling herself up to standing, something which the health visitor was concerned about.  Obviously she wasn’t that concerned as she was supposed to be coming back for a follow-up review at 12 months which has never happened.

So, less than 5 months later, I have a real toddler.  She still walks a bit like a robot but I notice an improvement every day. 

She loves her shoes, my favourites are her wellies.

It’s still very slow and it’ll be a while before we actually let her walk anywhere.  A 2 minute walk over to my parents takes at least 10 minutes when C is walking with me but I don’t care, I love it!  It’s so much better now she’s not ruining every pair of trousers by crawling or shuffling everywhere, and she looks so good in her wellies with a short dress on!

The Finishing school challenge this week is

F is for… Fitness

As Lottie quite rightly says, we should all exercise for at least 30 minutes a day.  We all know this but how many of us actually do it?  I used to go to the gym a few years ago but never enjoyed it so it didn’t really last long.

Lottie’s challenge is to ‘walk or do some form of exercise for 30 minutes each day’.  I really enjoy walking and walk with the dog and C every day so I usually manage this.  My problem with walking is that, unless I think about it, I just stroll along which isn’t really doing me any good.  I’m trying to make a conscious effort to walk a lot faster so my walks may then actually achieve something.

I own Wii Fit but, although I quite enjoy using it, I rarely get chance to so its sat gathering dust.

As most of my time at home now involves chasing a toddler round I’m hoping I’m getting a fair amount of exercise that way!  As she becomes a more confident walker I hope we’ll go for walks together and play in the garden.

I’m also trying to be good and do sit-ups every day as part of @Kahanka’s #fitnesstuesday and I’m managing some days but I really need to try harder with that one too.  I know once I establish some form of routine with sit-ups I would stick at it but I sometimes just forget in a morning, then when I finish work we eat, bathe C and then I’m usually too tired.  I really am going to try and stick with it every day though.

How do people manage to exercise every day?  Is it just self discipline (something I appear to be lacking) or do you do it because you enjoy it?
