The Gallery – Nature July 28, 2010

Posted by Admin in The Gallery.

Apparently people have been complaining that Tara over at Sticky Fingers has been setting difficult themes for the Gallery, so this week she has come up with a nice, easy one… Nature.  There’s even a prize – a yummy hamper of Green & Blacks goodies!

My picture was taken this weekend while we were staying in West Yorkshire.  We found a path to follow and eventually came to this

Its so stunning when you find hidden gems like this, just in the middle of a wood.  A natural wonder, unspoilt by man.  Nature at its best.

Wannabe Designer Girl? July 23, 2010

Now, I’m not a designer girl myself.  I mostly shop at Next, Dorothy Perkins and New Look.  I like looking at designer things and think lots of it is very pretty but could never justify spending that kind of money on a flimsy bit of material.

However, when it comes to C’s clothes I start to wobble.  I mean, c’mon, have you seen the gorgeous patterns by brands such as Katvig, ej sikke lej and Molo?  They’re fantastic, such bright, vivid colours with such unusual designs.

I have managed to restrain myself so far and C does not yet own anything by any of these brands.  She does have some incredibly funky dungarees by Brights & Stripes though, although these were in the sale, and even M agreed they were that brilliant she just had to have them.

But it’s not fair.  I’m drawn to these clothes because of the way they look so why don’t places like Next, or the supermarkets, try harder when they design their children’s clothes?  I groan every time I walk into a shop to find a wall of pink in front of me. Yes, I know she’s a girl but I thought we were trying to get rid of all this stereotypical crap???  I want to see spots and stripes and bright colours everywhere.  I’ll stick with the girl theme – I have nothing against putting C in a dress, she looks lovely in them, but not a pink one.

Please tell me I’m not alone on this one?  Do you look for ‘different’ clothes and designs?  Have you found somewhere that sells them that doesn’t require a bank loan?

Lottie Loves… Finishing School – Week 4 July 22, 2010

This week, the fabulous Lottie over at Lottie Loves, set us the challenge

D is for… Dreams

You HAVE to dream. You have to believe that one day your life will be exactly as you want it, that one day you can attain your ideal.  If  you believe this then often you will achieve it or at least get half way to achieving it which is a damn sight better than getting nowhere.

What is your big dream? What do you dream about doing in five, ten, fifteen years time? In your wildest fantasies (keep it clean ladies!) what do you see yourself achieving? Do you long for a certain type of family life? Do you yearn to be running your own business? Do you wish to be a ballet dancer/pop star/zoo keeper? Do you want to look a certain way? Do you want to be a lawyer/brain surgeon/scientist? Do you dream of having a yoga fit slim, toned body? Are you healthy? In love?

I dream of packing up our life in the UK and moving to Cyprus.  I love Cyprus, any regular readers may remember that M  and I got married there, and we both just fell in love with the place.  I have an ideal in my head that probably doesn’t match up to what real life would ever be like but that’s ok because its mine.  I want to eat fresh fish, and grow my own vegetables.  I want it to be warm all the time and have my own swimming pool.  I want to have family bbq’s where we sit and chat about our days and plan our next adventure.

I don’t know if I’ll ever live in Cyprus, probably not but I’ll always dream.

I also dream of M and I growing old together, of being one of those really old couples that people think are sweet.  I want to have a close family, a healthy family, a loving family.

I want to have enough money so me and my family are comfortable, a lottery win would be ideal but just enough not to worry too much will do!

Part of me  wants to have a successful career but the other part of me knows that to do that I’ll have to sacrifice time with my family and, to me, family is more important.

So there you have it, a handful of my dreams.  Some big, some small.  Hopefully all achievable but we’ll see.

The Gallery – A Novel Idea July 21, 2010

Ok, I admit, Tara came up with a really good one for this week’s Gallery!  I’ve been racking my brains for something really clever and/or funny to do but have failed miserably so you’ll have to make do with this one.

As a child, my absolute favourite books were the Thomas the Tank Engine books by Rev. W. Awdry.  I had lots of these books, about all the different engines and I loved them.  I wish my mum had saved them as Thomas is still as popular today and I would have loved reading them to C.

As you can see in the picture, C and I are riding in Percy.  There are also Thomas, as well as his coaches Annie and Clarabel, all being really useful engines.

I’m sure there are lots of very clever and amusing posts on this weeks Gallery.  My excuse will have to be that I was ill over the weekend and my brain wasn’t functioning as it should.

You should definitely come over and take a peek
