Cottages and chinese food August 9, 2010Posted by Admin in Blog.

Me and M had the last week in July off work. My parents had rented a cottage near Skipton for a week and we joined them for the weekend, it was lovely.
The cottage was down a bumpy lane, had electric gates, a big garden and was just fantastic! It was all on one floor with big exposed beams in every room, sunken windows and a gorgeous bathroom.
C thoroughly enjoyed exploring inside and out
Thanks to my lovely twitter friend @debcw, who lives in the area, we went on a couple of lovely walks. We saw the fantastic ‘Five rise locks’ at Bingley which was very impressive
We walked from Bingley to Saltaire along the canal but unfortunately got quite wet so didn’t manage to spend any time in Saltaire as we caught the train back so we could go and get dry!
We were supposed to be coming home on Monday but decided to be cheeky and stay an extra day which meant we could go and feed the ducks at the lovely St Ives estate (another recommendation)
The rest of the week was spent welding our Landrover (M) and painting/tidying (me). We did manage to have a few trips out including taking C for her first ever chinese.
We love this chinese. The food is the best and it’s a very reasonable price too. C was such a good girl and tried everything we put in front of her. Prawn toast is a favourite of hers and she had huge fun trying to eat rice with her hands.
All in all we had a really nice week as it’s not that often we get to spend more than a day or so together as a family. Roll on the bank holiday!

The Gallery: Holidays July 7, 2010Posted by Admin in The Gallery.
The prompt for this weeks Gallery over at Sticky Fingers is Holidays.
Sounds simple but once again its one of those prompts that you could use a hundred different photos for!
One of my favourite holiday photos is this one, taken in Ibiza in June 2008
Everyone who’s ever been to San Antonio in Ibiza is guaranteed to have a picture of the sunset there, it’s just stunning!
Head over to see the rest of the Gallery entries at Tara’s blog!

Ok, so we were really back on Friday but I wasn’t going to miss the glorious weekend sunshine by sitting indoors on the computer was I?
Anyway, we had a fabulous time at Butlins in Skegness. So much so, we’re already planning our next trip there!
If you’ve never been you’re missing out! If you’ve got children it is such a great place. We took C back in October when she was just 4 mths and, although she couldn’t go on any rides, we enjoyed taking her swimming and she enjoyed all the lights and sounds of the shows.
This time was even better! She could go in the soft play area, on a couple of rides and we spent over an hour in the pool on our first day. She liked the shows, as did M and I!
The weather at the beginning of the week was ok but not brilliant but by Thursday it was hot! We spent a few hours on the beach, something that confused C to begin with as the sand felt funny! She soon got used to it and decided she liked it so much she’d see what it tasted like. She didn’t do that again!
We bought a kite, for C obviously, and me & M had fun flying that!
I even got to read a whole book during C’s afternoon naps!
We also met up with some of M’s family who live in Skegness while we were there which was nice, as some of them had not met C before, including her great-grandparents.
It was a really nice week and I was sad to leave on Friday. We will definitely return, maybe in the Autumn.
But for now, its back to normality, although it is almost a bank holiday!
Holidays May 12, 2010Posted by Admin in Blog.
Holidays are a funny thing aren’t they? We save up lots of money, buy new clothes and get so excited just to go and stay somewhere different for a week or two.
Why do we do it? Sure, having a week away is nice but the day you get back and have to start on that mountain of washing and ironing it doesn’t really feel like you’ve been away.
Is it not having to go to work? The sunshine? The food? A rest?
I love holidays. I love them even if my ‘holiday’ is going camping in the Peak District for the weekend. M just shakes his head at me when I say I’m excited about going on holiday, but I know he secretly is too!
My favourite two holidays have both been to Paphos in Cyprus. The first time we went there was to get married. Ten of us went and stayed in a lovely all-inclusive hotel on the sea front. Even though it was January and a lot of places were closed, we fell in love with the place.
We returned to Cyprus in September of the same year, just the 2 of us. This time we stayed in an apartment, ate out at a different restaurant every night and enjoyed drinks by the harbour. It was wonderful. I can’t wait to take C there although might wait a few years as I’m not sure I fancy a 5 hour flight with a baby!
Since C’s been here, we’ve been away for a weekend with my parents in a holiday cottage when she was just 3 weeks old and last October we went to Butlins.
We’re off to Butlins again on Monday, hence the holiday post, and I’m so looking forward to it now that C is that bit older and will be interested in the shows and everything thats going on.
We’ve got nothing else booked this year but we’re hoping to take C on her first camping trip or 2 when the weather is a bit warmer. Not planning on going far, just over to the Peak District again, but I’m already excited!
What do you love about holidays?
What has been your best holiday ever and where are you looking forward to going next?
